Apple's March quarter will likely show strong Mac sales, but iPhone sales may come in weaker than analysts would like, according to American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu. Mac sales may, in fact, come in above analyst estimates spurred in part by the new MacBook Air. Wu said that the quarter's Mac sales appear to be the most promising with continued momentum carried over from previous quarters.

Apple has released the second major version of its professional-grade photo editing and management application, Aperture. The company packed 100 new features in to Aperture 2, including a more streamlined user interface and an entirely new image processing engine. Key enhancements include new imaging tools for highlight recovery, color vibrancy, local contrast definition and RAW fine-tuning.

Apple released its first security update for 2008 late Monday, correcting vulnerabilities in OS X Leopard and Tiger. Mac OS X 10.5.2 and Security Update 2008-001 correct 11 flaws in applications such as Time Machine, Parental Control, Mail and Safari. Also included is a patch for a directory services vulnerability that was listed in the Month of Apple Bugs project, released in January 2007.
